Endocrine
Tesamorelin
Overview
Tesamorelin is a synthetic growth-hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) analogue. It is FDA-approved specifically for the reduction of excess visceral abdominal fat in HIV-associated lipodystrophy; other uses are not approved and are studied in a research context only.
Mechanism
As a GHRH analogue, tesamorelin stimulates endogenous growth hormone release from the pituitary. In controlled trials this was associated with reductions in visceral adipose tissue and hepatic fat without worsening glycemic parameters.
Research Areas
- GHRH-receptor agonism and endogenous GH release
- Visceral adipose tissue and hepatic-fat models
- Body-composition research in lipodystrophy
Handling & Storage
Lyophilized; store refrigerated. Reconstitute with sterile water for research use.
